Salon Myth
People think that going to the Beauty Shop/ Salons is the best treatment they can get for their hair. When in actuality many Stylists don't know the basics for healthy hair care. As I was a child, I remember my mother, sister and I always going to the Beauty Salon. Now I am older I think "for what"? What is the Stylist doing that I can't do at home? Many African American women suffer from over processed, color damaged as well as severely
butchered hair. Let's get into detail about this. I had a friend that once told me that before her hair journey she got a relaxer ever 4 weeks. ARE YOU SERIOUS? Yes she was, every 4 weeks. In result, her hair was extremely over processed ending in her taking control of her own hair. As she went on her hair journey, she had a good amount of growth and she learned more about chemicals and how they works on hair. She decided to go natural and has never looked back. Now on to color damage. This will be short so I don't sound redundant but when coloring your hair so much that you don't allow your hair a breather to catch up and get its nutrients back will cause the hair to break is called Color Damage. The hair needs to have a break from harsh chemicals and allow a chance to get back to it health state before further adding chemicals to it. Last but not least scissor happy stylists. We all go to the salon for a trim, but how many times have you went were the stylist has taken off too much hair because she thought one that was how you wanted it or two she thought your ends were dead. We asked for a trim not a chop. This is the problem here. You should always get what you ask for being that it is your money paying for the service. To this day, many African American women are afraid to go to the Salon for a cut out of fear that they will not get what they asked for. On this blog you will find true tips to obtaining beautiful, healthy, long hair.
